2005 SADCO'S YOUTH RAFAEL POMBO WRITING CONTEST
"Pombo’s fables are a must-read; all Colombians in elementary school learn them by heart"
Dates for submission are September 1st through October 31st, 2005.
Purposes:
To motivate Indiana children to learn more about the positive aspects of Hispanic history, Hispanic culture, and Hispanic personalities.
To support the development of writing skills among young students.
Categories:
Three basic categories will be evaluated:
Elementary school children
Middle school
High school.
Students may write an essay or a short story in English.
Minimum requirements will be:
Elementary students: One to Two-page double-spaced document.
Middle School: Three to Four double spaced document.
High School: At least Five-page document
Evaluation:
A committee will evaluate all documents based on:
Creativity
Relevance of chosen topic for the Hispanic culture
Appropriate use of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.
An independent evaluation committee will grade the papers and select the
winners.
Dates for submission are September 1st through October 31st, 2005.

Awards:
Three awards per category. Redeemable certificates in Borders or Summer Camps
involved in academics. All winners will receive a certificate of recognition
(sent to their school) and award at a SADCO event.
First place:
High School $200 US Bond certificate
Middle School $150 US Bond certificate
Elementary $100 US Bond certificate
Second Place:
High School $ 150 US Bond certificate
Middle School $ 100 US Bond certificate
Elementary $75 US Bond certificate
Third Place:
High School $ 100 US Bond certificate
Middle School $ 75 US Bond certificate
Elementary $ 50 US Bond certificate
Topic for 2005 Writing Contest: Colombia.
Students may write any aspect about Colombia's history, geography, current
events or famous people. Only positive topics of Colombia will be
considered.
