SADCO celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2004! SADCO celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2004! 2004 marks the 20th anniversary of SADCO. And the celebration is with the community. Come and celebrate with SADCO cultural showcases, typical music recital, choral concert, and much more. SADCO is committed to organize high quality events to raise funds for its educational, social, cultural programs. Colombian Music Recital at Carmel Public Library, 20th Anniversary Celebration, August 21

SADCO's Recital of Colombian Music SADCO invites you to a Colombian music recital to celebrate SADCO's 20th Anniversary on Saturday August 21 at Carmel Public Library. Come with family and friends to enjoy typical Colombian music such as bambucos, pasillos, and torbellinos. This unique event is hosted by SADCO under its 20th Anniversary celebration.

    It's FREE!, but seats are limited to 200. There will be admission tickets to be picked up at the library as of August 1st. Check our website www.sadco.org/recital.html for more information about tickets and programs.

    SADCO cordialmente lo invita al gran Recital de Música Colombian en celebración del 20 Aniversario de SADCO el día 21 de Agosto del 2004 en la Biblioteca Pública de Carmel, Indiana, a las 7:00 p.m.. Venga con su familia y amigos y disfrute de bella música Colombiana como pasillos, bambucos y torbellinos.

    El número de personas está limitado a 200 máximo. Los tiquetes están disponibles en la Biblioteca de Carmel desde Agosto 1 y se entregarán hasta que se terminen.

    • Great Picnic, Fantastic Food, Wonderful Party

    Independence Day Celebration Once again SADCO held a great party to celebrate Colombian Independence Day last July 18th at Forest Park in Noblesville, Indiana. It was a fantastic party full of color, patriotism, great food, and enchanting music. There was entertainment for the little ones as well. A magician performed for the children. 2004-2005 SADCO scholarship winners were announced and handed their first installment of their scholarship. DJ Elkin Zuluaga kept the party going and even the little ones danced.

    SADCO brought Latin Night to Indy Jazz Fest

    SADCO's booth at 2004 Indy Jazz Fest SADCO collaborated with Indy Jazz Fest, and for the first time in the history of this renown festival, a Latin Night was featured. And SADCO partnered to co-host this fabulous night. Music bands such as Ipanema, Furor Vallenato, Diego Del Real, and DJ Elkin Zuluaga added a Latin touch to the party at Jazz Central stage. SADCO also had a cultural booth in the Neighborhood Row. SADCO would like to express its appreciation to the the Indy Jazz Fest for inviting SADCO for this idea and is looking forward to next year.

      Colombian soprano Patricia Caicedo featured in SADCO's choral concert on October 10
    • Indianapolis Children's Choir featured in SADCO's choral concert on October 10 Mark your calendar. SADCO announces its special 20th Anniversary Choral Concert which will feature Colombian Soprano Patricia Caicedo and Indianapolis Children's Choir (ICC) at the impressive Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center at the University of Indianapolis. Patricia Caicedo and the ICC join voices to celebrate SADCO's 20th Anniversary with a dreamed, top quality performance. More information will be released soon on our website and University of Indianapolis website. Do not miss this first class event.

    • Colombian outstanding student featured in local Newspaper. Diana Vazquez, a graduate from North Central and a SADCO associate was featured in the local TOPICS newspaper of Clay Township for her outstanding job during her high school years. Diana was awarded with several scholarships, among them the SADCO scholarship, to pursue studies of engineering at IUPUI. Congratulations Diana!

    • SADCO's siblings featured in local Newspaper and Nickelodeon Diana Otero and Diego Otero, children of SADCO president Fernando Otero, were featured in the local TOPICS newspaper of Clay Township for their appereance in Nickelodeon's show NICK NEWS, which will portrait Hispanic American children and will be aired in September and October during the Hispanic Heritage month. Congratulations Diana and Diego!

    • SADCO present during the celebration of El Dia de los Niños SADCO collaborated with the Indianapolis Children's Museum during the celebration of El Día de los Niños. SADCO members read stories in both English and Spanish to children that attended this event. Other members of the community were present such as Bertha Torres from SADCO and Rafael Perez from the Marion County Public Library (picture on right).

    SADCO President at National Hispanic Leadership Summit in DC

    SADCO's President, Fernando Otero, was nominated by Senator Richard Lugar to attend the National Hispanic Leadership Summit, which was held in Washington D.C. on July 12-13. Hispanic leaders from all the states of the nation were nominated by a US Senator and invited to attend this meeting to discuss important issues for the growing Hispanic community in the USA. Issues discussed included the Dream Act to facilitate access to college education for children of undocumented parents; NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND program to ensure that all children, including Hispanics, have access to high quality education; health care initiatives; small business development; and other social issues. The summit was chaired by US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who is in the picture below with SADCO's president Fernando Otero. SADCO's Presdident Fernando Otero and US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson

    SADCO's 2003-2004 Scholarships have been awarded

    SADCO has awarded five Hispanic students in Indiana with $1,000-scholarships to pursue college studies at Indiana college institutions. The students awarded are:
    Maritza Cordova (Mexico), Carla Huaylla (Peru), Ines Pacheco (Venezuela), Ruth Quinde (Peru), Diana Vazquez (Colombia).

    Congratulations to the winners and good luck in your college studies.

    SADCO established a scholarship fund to help Hispanic students attend college. An independent panel awarded the scholarships to five out of the total submitted applications based on ACHIEVEMENT and NEED. Click here to visit our scholarship page for more information.
