  • Sharon Hernandez, SADCO Scholarship winner, 2008-2009

Sharon Hernandez, SADCO Scholarship winner, 2008-2009 “Life in college is wonderful; I have had the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and I have learned many new things. As Journalism major, I am developing my skills in the college newspaper and I am looking forward to apply for an internship next year. I am living a wonderful experience on campus, and I cannot stress enough how much I thank the generosity that lies in your hearts for helping me in this path to success. Finding money nowadays is hard, particularly in these months of global financial crisis. Paying for a higher education is very difficult for many students, and I include myself; my family’s income unfortunately is not good enough to pay for my tuition. However, I admire those who have kindly lent their hand for those of us who really need it. God bless your generosity. “

    Sharon Hernandez,
    SADCO Scholarship winner, 2008-2009

Renew your SADCO membership -- Become a SADCO member

Surely at least once you have asked yourself "why should I become a SADCO member?". Or, "what benefits do I get by becoming a SADCO member?". What would motivate me and my family to pay $60/year to become member? You certainly want to ask about SADCO people and get to know SADCO's activities and events. But what mattered most to us is to know what SADCO's Mission and Vision Statement is all about. What are SADCO's goals?

SADCO is an open, non-for-profit organization that offers anyone that wonderful opportunity to feel an active part of the betterment of his/her local community and our con-nationals, and contribute in some way to aid those in need and less priviledged. The human being is always questioning himself as "what can I do to have a more meaninful effect?". SADCO provides anyone with this opportunity. Of course, there are many other options. However, if you have ever thought about a good way to help with a little contribution to the least priviledeged ones, well, SADCO may be that way. SADCO has clearly demonstrated during its almost twenty five years of life an outstanding organizational capability, a transparent management of resources, a significant impact on the community, and a strong and productive relationship with government officials and the public in general in Central Indiana.

SADCO is based on three fundamental priorities that frame its life and function: EDUCATION, CHILDREN, and CULTURE. SADCO unbelievably has been able to give more than $85,000 in scholarships to Hispanic young students who have decided and demonstrated to pursue college degrees. This is a result of SADCO's highest priority: EDUCATION. SADCO has created simple but effective programs to aid Hispanic children locally and in Colombia and other Latin American nations. SADCO has brought to Indianapolis area excellent, high quality cultural events as a result of its critical institutional goal to promote and preserve Latin-Hispanic cultural heritage.

SADCO offers its members, additional to this incredible opportunity for personal fulfillment, discounts to its renown GALA, recreational events and awards to members' children, scholarships and discounts to specialized conferences and courses, discounts to sports and social events in which SADCO has been an organizing partner or through its sponsors, and many other more benefits. Oh, not to mention that the fee of $60/family o $45/individual is deductible from your tax return?

Thanks to all of you who supported and attended our events. You are invited to become a member. Click here to download the Membership Application Form. Save the file and print it to fill it out and mail the form and a cheque to SADCO.

Last year more than 500 leaders from Indiana community, governmental, educational and social organizations (including SADCO) gathered in Indianapolis April 10 for an event aimed at raising funds for scholarships to support Indiana Latino students. USA Funds® sponsored the event, which raised more than $200,000 toward the Latino Scholarship Fund. The new fund will support multiple organizations that offer scholarships to Latino students in Indiana. The Central Indiana Community Foundation serves as the fiscal agent for the new fund. “This event has far exceeded our expectations,” said Dalstrom. “The fact that so many came out to support the Latino Scholarship Fund tells me that individuals and organizations truly understand how important it is to raise scholarship dollars for our students, especially minority students. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders, and it’s essential to all of us that we help them succeed academically.” (Taken from www.usafunds.org)

"It really warms my heart to know that there are people who care about the Hispanic youth and their advancement through higher education", Perla Rojas, SADCO Scholarship Recipient 1999-2000.

Board Member Juan Gonzalez: one of Forty under 40

Congratulations to Juan Gonzalez, SADCO's Treasurer, for being selected as one of the Forty under 40 by the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ)... well deserved. We are proud of you.

    FYI, from the IBJ website:
Forty Under 40: IBJ recognizes 40 local business and professional leaders who have achieved success before the age of 40. These people have demonstrated leadership, initiative and dedication in pursuing their careers, and are likely to continue to achieve in the future. Each honoree is profiled in a special supplement. Honorees are honored at a private reception attended by members of previous Forty Under 40 classes.

It is worth noting that SADCO's Board Member Roberto Ponce was one of the 40 under 40 in 2006 and our President Dr. Alfredo Lopez was one the Best and Brightest in 2004. We are blessed and honored to have such talented individuals in our Board.

We will celebrate: Puerto Rico Night!

Please note that the entrance to 106th Street from Keystone Avenue is under construction so you will need to find an alternate route: from 96th Street you could take Gray Road going north and then turn left on 106th Street until you reach Lakeshore Drive East. Turn right to reach the clubhouse.

    Puerto Rico Night

Typical food from Colombia and Puerto Rico will be available for sale and SADCO will provide complimentary soft drinks. We will be asking non SADCO members to make a modest $5 donation per guest over eighteen years old to help us defray the costs of the event. This payment will allow them to participate in a raffle that evening. SADCO members will participate in the raffle free of charge.

  • We are planning a dessert contest as part of the activities. Judges will select three winners. Please bring a dessert if you want to participate in this culinary contest.
