SADCO's Picnic, what a great party!

Great Party, SADCO's 2005 Independence Picnic SADCO's 2005 Independence Day picnic was an outstanding event, as usual. More than 350 people got joined SADCO to celebrate in a party environment. Although a strong rain at noon scared the organizers, the sun came out and offered a fantastic day for the attending families. Visitors came from all over Indiana including Elkhart, Anderson, and West Lafayette. There were also visitors from Florida, Illinois and, of course, from Colombia. Many nationalities were represented as well including USA, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and others.

As always, the music provided by DJ Elkin Zuluaga was more than extraordinary. People danced every single piece Elking played. Food consisted of typical stake seasoned in a "Llanero" style. Entertainment for children was provided by Douglas Jave, "The Magic Man". Univision Indiana was also present with Marco Dominguez and his crew covering the event.

SADCO deeply appreciates the absolutely excellent behavior of all attendees. It was such a nice party with very nice audience. Thanks.

SADCO invites all to the rest of events for the year and is looking forward to seeing everyone in our 2006 Independence Day Picnic.
Thanks!

  • Colombian Dr. Edmond J. Yunis named 2005 National Hispanic Scientist of the Year

MOSI, the Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa, Fla., announced that it has selected the honoree of the fifth-annual National Hispanic Scientist of the Year Award.

Colombian Dr. Yunis selected as National Hispanic Scientist
of the Year

This year’s honoree is Dr. Edmond J. Yunis, Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, and the former Chief of the Department of Cancer, Immunology, & AIDS (1976-2000) at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. The mission of the National Hispanic Scientist of the Year Award is to recognize outstanding national Hispanic scientists who promote a greater public understanding of science, and motivate Hispanic youths’ interest in science.
Dr. Yunis was born in Sincelejo, Colombia, South America, where he received his MD in 1954 from the Universidad Nacional of Colombia. Dr. Yunis further received his postdoctoral training in pathology at the University of Kansas, the University of Minnesota, and the Children's Hospital Boston. Dr. Yunis joined Harvard Medical School in 1976 as Professor of Pathology and became Chief of the Division of Immunogenetics of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute that same year.

Dr. Yunis’ research is important to the genetic mapping of human major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes and their role in immune responses, aging, and autoimmune diseases. An important function of Dr. Yunis’ laboratory work has been the identification of or typing for alleles of the major histocompatibility complex. The identification of HMC alleles and genotypes is important for matching donors and recipients for organ and stem cell transplantation.

    Change for Children in Colombia

SADCO's project "CHANGE OF CHILDREN IN COLOMBIA" is going very well. About 30% of the total distributed piggy banks have been collected with an average amount of $70 per piggy bank. Our goal is to collect funds through the distribution of piggy banks to help institutions in Colombia dedicated to taking care of children living in abject poverty. Some of these children have been abandoned by their parents or have serious health or mental limitations. While you can do very little with the change you receive from daily transactions in the USA, that change can CHANGE the lives of children in Colombia because the little we give here can make a big difference to those institutions in Colombia. If you would like to receive a biggy bank to fill it along with your family and/or friends, contact SADCO to sadcowww@iquest.net or call at (317) 767-7927. And on behalf of the Children in Colombia, thank you so much.
