SADCO President invited to the Department of State

Estimados amigos,

(click here to read this in English)

Have a blessed day. It is an honor for me to inform that I was invited to represent SADCO at the “The Andes in the United States” conference (ANDUSA), a dialogue with Andean-American community organizations, on Friday, April 15, 2005 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The conference took place at the State Department’s Loy Henderson Auditorium in Washington D.C.

The purpose of the conference was to provide an opportunity to interact with key U.S. government policymakers on pertinent issues affecting the Andean-American communities in the United States, and to establish a more formal and productive dialogue between both parties.

Speakers included U.S. government participation from the Departments of State, Commerce, and Treasury, as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Also participants in the seminar were the personnel from Bolivian, Colombian, Ecuadorian, and Peruvian government officials responsible for overseas citizen outreach.

The ongoing discussions surrounding the Free Trade Area of the Americas was shown as an example of the commitment of the U.S. Government to strengthening partnerships with the free nations of the Western Hemisphere, including those in the Andean region. With the increasing numbers of Andean-Americans living and working in the United States, those partnerships are extending throughout the United States, making them more important than ever. The hope with this conference was to have a great opportunity to solidify and build upon these relationships, and advance a dynamic and lasting dialogue with our communities in the United States.

Fernando Otero, SADCO's President and other Colombian leaders at the State Department The conference was opened by Ambassador Roger F. Noriega, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs. The moderator and speaker was Ambassador Charles Shapiro, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Other speakers included, Ambassador John Maisto, U.S. Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States and U.S. Coordinator for the Summit of the Americas and Ambassadors from Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru to Washignton D.C.

SADCO honored El Tango in outstanding concert Concert

EL TANGO Concert, brought by SADCO Tango was the star of the night during magnificent SADCO's Latin American Music Concert on Sunday April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Indiana History Center Theater. A great venue for fantastic performers. The concert featured extraordinary bandoneon player Antonio Soave. The artistic direction was by Maestro Stanley De Rusha. The concert included the presentation of virtuoso pianist Eugenio Urrutia from Chile. The Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra played accompanying solo performers as well. It was an unforgetable evening full of the best music about Tango. The concert started with a piece from Colombian author Blas Emilio Atehortua titled Pieza Concierto. Then unforgotten author Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) and the bandoneon became the center of attention of virtuoso Antonio Soave and Maestro DeRusha's orchestra.

It was one of those hard to repeat evenings in which a better combination is hard to find. SADCO is committed to promote Latin America's cultural heritage by holding extraordinary, high quality events like this concert. Honorable General Consulate of Mexico Mr. Sergio Aguilera and his lovely wife were among the attendees. During the intermission two people were recognized by SADCO. Mrs. Rosario Zerra received a special recognition from SADCO for her lifetime dedication to the arts of Latin America in Indiana. Mr. Richard Miller, owner of Fineline Printing, also received a special recognition for his support of Latin American culture in Indianapolis. SADCO will continue to work hard to bring concerts and recitals that promote Latin American cultural heritage to the Central Indiana community and encourage sponsors to support our cultural programs.
