From the president

Dear Friends,
SADCO brings you this newsletter with the goal to provide our members, friends, and sponsors with a communication channel that will let you know what SADCO does, where SADCO's funds go, who SADCO's members are, and what SADCO is about. Feel free to send us any input you may have regarding this newsletter or SADCO itself. You are more than welcome to support and sponsor SADCO through this newsletter. It will be a great way to reach not only SADCO's membership, but also SADCO's friends, who are many in Indiana. You are welcome to contribute with an article, news, a job posting, etc. In this Volume, you will learn about our scholarship recipients, Gala Dance and Dinner, "Change for Children in Colombia" project, calendar of events, and programs.
Best regards,
Fernando Otero, President

From the 2002-2003 SADCO’s scholarship recipients:

Amy Ramirez, Anderson University -- “Thank you again for all your help. I really appreciate what SADCO has done for me. God bless! - Thank you so much for your support in my education. I really appreciate your help. I received the second check in the mail already. It has been a pleasure getting to know you a little better this year. Thanks again!”

Cristina Soto, IVY Tech State College -- “I would like to express my most sincere gratitude and thank you for granting me the opportunity of being chosen as your 2002-2003 scholarship recipient. The financial assistance SADCO has provided has helped me overcome what sometimes might seem as obstacles when attending school. I really appreciate all the support you offer Hispanic students. I am sure it helps them as much it has helped me. Thanks a lot!!!”

Trinidad Redondo Jr., University of Notre Dame -- “I would like to thank you and the rest of the SADCO committee for helping me pay for a college education. Organizations like SADCO make it possible for students, like me, to receive a college education. I hope that your organization is as proud as I am with the results that I have made in my first semester in college. Believe me, organizations like SADCO make it possible for me to concentrate on academics and less on the financial side of college. Again, I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart and I would like to get to know you and SADCO so I can thank all of you in person.”

Saralin Fuentes, Indiana University Northwest

SADCO GALA: Great! as always

As always, SADCO's Gala Dinner and Dance was a total success. More than 300 dressy friends of Colombia attended this acclaimed Gala on November 16, 2002, at The Fountains Banquet and Conference Center in Carmel, IN. The Colombian-flag-color decorated ballroom witnessed a wonderful night of happy tropical music and savvy dancers. (Thanks to Balloopaz for donating the beautiful decoration). Attendees not only enjoyed a great time and food, but also had the opportunity and pride to play an important role in SADCO's projects. All profits from this GALA go back to the community through SADCO's programs such as scholarships for Hispanic students, aid for abandoned children, social assistance, disaster relief, and many others. On behalf of SADCO members, thank you all who attended. Just by attending you become part of a solution. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you all at our 2003 GALA, which will be on November 8, 2003 at Ritz Charles.

Change for Children in Colombia

SADCO is promoting the campaign "CHANGE FOR CHILDREN IN COLOMBIA". Our goal is to collect funds through the distribution of piggy banks to help institutions in Colombia dedicated to taking care of children living in abject poverty. Some of these children have been abandoned by their parents or have serious health or mental limitations. While you can do very little with the change you receive from daily transactions in the USA, that change can CHANGE the lives of children in Colombia because the little we give here can make a big difference to those institutions in Colombia. If you would like to receive a biggy bank to fill it along with your family and/or friends, contact SADCO to sadcowww@iquest.net or call at (317) 767-7927. And on behalf of the Children in Colombia, thank you so much.

SADCO'S DONATIONS

SADCO donated about 80 Christmas presents to children of Hogar Villa Alegria, an institution that provides shelter and care to poor children in Colombia. All the presents were donated by families who attended SADCO's Christmas Party in December, 2002. A family member of SADCO personally took and delivered all the presents to the children in Colombia. A happy face full of a beautiful smile of each recipient child was the best reward for SADCO's members. Thanks to all families who donated presents and sent a Christmas note to the children and thanks to the Goens family who took and deliver the presents.

SADCO made a donation to nursing home Asilo San Rafael in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia, for value of $500.00 in December, 2002. SADCO's president, Fenando Otero, personally handed the donations to the Administrative Director of Asilo San Rafael. The donation included an extensible latter, tweesers, diapers, treating supplies, sutture supplies and others.
